Resolutions for a new year in business

When the calendar turns over, it’s always a good time to reflect on your current situation, whether that be running your business or working towards personal achievements. Here are six important points to consider so you can get the most out of 2025.

Time management

Time is money, and we all want more money. But sometimes our day-to-day tasks become overwhelming and we lose track of our personal time. This year, try to delegate or subcontract any nonbillable activities. At the same time, make sure you have enough time to rest. Plan your free time before setting up work appointments.

Look back to look forward

When you look back, you’ll see which parts of your business require more time; this will help you with the first point in this article. But retrospection also offers you a clear view of what has worked well, and what isn’t cutting it. Look over any contracts you have with suppliers, celebrate your successes, and take a critical eye to anything that didn’t work this past year. It’s important to know where you come from because, as the Spanish philosopher George Santayana said, “those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

Set goals

New year, new goals. It’s important to set goals both for your business and for yourself. What do I need to start, stop or change? What skills should I develop this year? Do I need the help of an expert? Try to set three goals that are both measurable and reachable.

Study the current business environment

Analyze your business’s performance within the context of the industry you’re in. How does it compare to your competitors? What are some challenges and opportunities you see on the horizon? It’s worth looking closely at how your target market behaves. To do so, ask for feedback from you clients so you can better fine-tune your services.

Focus on people

People are what move us. If you have employees, now is a good time to learn more about their needs, uncertainties and ambitions. Work to connect with your fans on social media and reach out to your best clients. Listen. The more you know about your surroundings, the stronger your business will be.

Ask for help

Nobody is an expert at everything. If you don’t know how to do something, get help from someone who does. There are a lot of resources out there for entrepreneurs who want to improve their performance. At LEDC, for example, we offer free workshops and business classes, as well as access to capital. There’s plenty of help. Don’t be afraid to ask!

May your 2025 be as successful as you’re dreamt!
