ST PAUL – The Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) has named Alma Flores as its new executive director.

Flores, who brings a distinguished background and professional experience in economic and community development, is set to lead LEDC as the nonprofit scales its mission and work to build generational wealth in Minnesota’s Latino and immigrant communities.

“We are delighted that Alma Flores is joining LEDC at this important period of growth,” said LEDC Board Chair Carlos López. “Her life and work experience, combined with her passion, enthusiasm, and dedication to the Latino community, bring the perfect mix of visionary leadership, a lifetime of advocacy, and a passion for creating economic opportunities to our experienced team. We are extremely fortunate to have found Alma and look forward to working together to keep LEDC at the forefront of Minnesota’s Latino community.”

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to lead such a dynamic and impactful organization that has done so much to build up and support the state’s Latino community,” Flores reflected. “I look forward to working with this dedicated team to grow our impact.”

A steadfast commitment to economic development and social justice provides a common thread through Flores’ career. Most recently, Flores served as community and economic development director for the City of Golden Valley. Prior to this role, Flores built a successful track record in economic development in leadership roles in Oregon and Massachusetts. Additionally, Flores invests time in her community by serving as a member of the board of Move Minnesota. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Flores is a graduate of MIT’s master’s program in city planning, and earned a BA from UCLA.

Flores will assume the role on October 7. She succeeds longtime LEDC board member and Interim Executive Director Uri Camarena, who stepped into the role in March of this year after former Executive Director Henry Jiménez, who is now the CEO of Propel Nonprofits.

The Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) is a Latino-created and -led organization that helps Latino entrepreneurs and small businesses launch and grow in Minnesota. The nonprofit organization aims to nourish a thriving multicultural community enriched with Latino leadership, culture and economic influence. LEDC provides access to capital, workshops, continuing education, one-on-one assistance and more as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI).
