At Hype Nutrition, nutrition isn’t just about shakes and supplements. It’s about building a healthier lifestyle for the Latino community. Founded with the mission to inform and empower, Hype Nutrition is a vibrant space where wellness, culture, and community come together. The story behind Hype Nutrition is deeply personal. The founders, Julio and Carlos, each faced serious health issues, primarily due to a diet high in fats and sugars, and nutritional deficiencies—such as excessive soda consumption and saturated fats. After receiving a concerning nutritional report, Julio realized it was time to make a change and commit to a healthier lifestyle.
As he began improving his health and seeing real results, a new purpose emerged: to help others, especially within the Latino community, understand the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and inspire them to do the same. Historically, the Latino community has been disproportionately affected by poor nutrition due to aggressive marketing by major soda brands. These habits have become ingrained in Latino culture, contributing to widespread health problems.
Julio recognizes this and is deeply committed to educating people on how to maintain a balanced diet and break away from sugary sodas. Hype Nutrition was created to offer more than just healthy drinks like protein shakes and meal replacements. It is a community hub offering wellness workshops, dance therapy classes, and personalized fitness sessions to help make healthy living more accessible, enjoyable, and sustainable.
Programs like these help create a supportive environment within the community. Their first business opened during the pandemic—a time filled with uncertainty. On top of that, Carlos has long struggled with migraines, anxiety, sleep issues, and bipolar disorder, which led to personal challenges with depression. Thanks to a healthier lifestyle, he has been able to better manage these conditions. Despite limited support from close friends and family, Julio and Carlos stayed committed to their mission. They leaned on the broader community for support and continue to promote their business through personal connections and social media.
Throughout their journey, LEDC has played a crucial role. From providing business development training to offering loans and resources, LEDC helped them launch not just one, but two businesses. Julio first discovered LEDC at a community event in South Minneapolis, and later reached out when he was ready to grow again. The founders are passionate about spreading the message of healthy living within the Latino community and making it easier to access the tools and support needed to live better. It’s a wellness movement rooted in culture, care, and a vision for a stronger, healthier community.
